This game is quite boring for adults, or anyone who can do basic maths. Best played between a group children of children with similar ability to perform basic addition and subtraction up to 20.

Brilliant. My son is reasonably intelligent, an excellent reader but really really struggling with basic maths. I think he just finds it SO DULL. But I want him to have a good start so I bought this. And a hundred other bits and pieces to trick him into learning sums.We already have quite a few Orchard Toys and the children love them all, this game is no exception. They love the disgustingness of the spell ingredients (bogeys, poo, rottten teeth, etc) and the fact you rub on the cards to reveal the answer. You have to rub pretty hard. It gives them more of a thrill, the anticipation of finding out if they are right or not. Well, maybe.

Played this with my 4 and 5 year old children over Christmas, who are currently obsessed with learning numbers. This game is really clever and gets them to think about sums, although we have not played the game using the MAGIC heat sensitive star on the back this is something we will encourage when the girls play the game on their own.Have lost track of the amount of Orchard Games we now own. They are always a winner.

Good Maths game. The answers take a bit of rubbing to reveal and not as bright as box suggests but enjoyable game all the same.

Excellent game. Bought for grandson for his 6th birthday. He loves numbers, so working out the sums on the cards is the skill part of the game. The rubbing the star to check the answer is a fun addition to the overall experience. 4 year old granddaughter loves the game too, but needs help with some of the maths.

This could have been a good game, but as it is it can only be played once. The child picks a card with a sum on it, works out the answer, then checks if it’s correct by rubbing off a panel on the card. Thus once the answer is exposed, it can’t be used again ! Very poor ! Dave Chalmers, Manchester

A brilliant card game that will help children improve their maths skills. We played this with my 6-year old nephew and everybody enjoyed it. Each round involves answering an arithmetic sum (they are about the right standard for years 1-2, adding, subtracting and basic multiplication). The way you check the answer by rubbing the back of the card adds a bit of extra suspense to the proceedings and it’s fun to collect the ingredients for the spell (which are all suitably disgusting such as rotten apples, skulls, maggots etc, my nephew found them all fun to collect). My only gripe was that the ingredients didn’t have any link to the sum that was answered, it would be nice if to get a full set of ingredients you needed to get 1 addition, 1 subtraction and 1 multiplication, which would help to add an extra dimension to the game. The product is well made with nice bright pictures that are appealing to children. My only concern would be that the way the answers are revealed by rubbing the card might not stand up to repeated plays.Overall, I would highly recommend this game as a fun way of helping children improve their maths.

Great game to encourage maths with my 5 year old. We tend to just play it simply by picking up a sum, working it out and filling up one big cauldron with a spell. The way you check your sum is great too and boosts the enthusiasm. Well worth adding to your Orchard Toy collection.
